Video Transcript for ARB Base Platform Racks Ratcheting Spare Tire Tie-Down Strap Review

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline at etrailer, and today we are taking a look at our ARB ratcheting tie down strap for your spare tire. So if you're looking to carry your tire up on top of your rack, then this is gonna be the tool designed just for that. Because ARB racks have a unique dovetail system, you need custom straps and clamps that work with this system. That's where our spare tire rack comes in here. It has three of these hooks that fit around any side of your ARB rack. This will create three points of contact in order to secure your tire.

Now what I have noticed is that while these style hooks are awesome for versatility and moving this around on your ARB rack, in reality as you're strapping it down, it does get a little tricky to get this into place and then secured. Obviously this is not gonna be the spare tire for this vehicle, but I grabbed this one just because of how well it fits in the slats so that I can show you what I mean by, the tips and tricks for getting this lined up is that you want your hooks and your clamps as close to each end of the tire. Once you have your larger spare tires, you then move further out in order to reach slats that are further away. So we have two hooks on that slat and one back here, creating that force downwards. To use this, what I do is I first hook up the top two Y straps.

So we're just going to loosely secure it where we do most of the strapping down except for the final locking move. So that way we can adjust our strap lengths back and forth until we get it pretty centered over our tire. By keeping the hook as close to the tire as possible, we are then relying on the tire for that tension and that will prevent our hook from sliding inwards to create a looser fit. So since this is a good spot for everything, we have this as tight as you can do it by hand. We're then going to lock our strap back in.

Do the same for the ratcheting end. Get the hook to the slat closer to the tire, and then you're going to thread your ratchet strap. What I like to do is I have the handle in the open position, that way all I need to do is feed our strap through, just like that, get that as tight as you can by hand and then ratchet the strap down until you have a tight fit all around. Now you may have some excess strap when all is said and done, so I do recommend tying off the excess strap. That way it's not flopping around in the wind.

And that's how you attach your wide strap for your spare tire. So depending on your tire size, it may be as easy as hook, hook, hook and strap down. Now for your larger tires, this might be a little trickier in order to get an actually good fit without the hooks sliding in or coming off. So while I like how secure this strap is, I'm not as big of a fan of how much there's room for improvement with this whole process. So hopefully this helped you out with getting your tire fitted to your rack and secured. If you do have a larger tire, you may wanna consider larger or more specific ratchet straps. There are some available from ARB designed for more versatility. When using these straps, these are made of a durable polyester webbing. This is gonna be an inch thick, which creates all that security for your tire. When not on your roof, you can also carry them in this included bag and that you can store it inside of your vehicle when this is not in use. You can find this and any other ARB custom accessories for your ARB rack right here at etrailer.com. With this was a look at the ratcheting tie down strap for your spare tires. My name's Evangeline and I hope you enjoyed the journey.
