Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2011 Subaru Forester

Today on our 2011 Subaru Forester we're doing a test fit of the Curt folding 20x60 cargo carrier. That part number is C18151. Now we already have it secured in there we're using this with 2 inch hitches, that's the only hitch style that it works with and it has a weight capacity of 500 pounds. First thing we're going to do here is take a few measurements starting off with our ground clearance we're going to have about 11 and a quarter inches. Our overall is going to be about 31.5 inches and then our closest point is going to be about 10 and a quarter inches away. Now as for our exhaust the Subaru has dual exhaust on both sides here, then we come about straight out and even with our carrier but it sits about 16.5 inches away. So if you're worried about heat sensitive materials I'd keep those more inside the cargo area. The next thing we'll check is our break over point which is going to be the point at which anything that stacks on our cargo carrier might make contact with our hatch doors. So we're going to have about 27.5 inches. more

This does have a carrying capacity of 500 pounds and has this mesh floor, which makes it easy to clean, and it has these points here all the way around the cargo carrier, which will serve as tie-down points for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. You look on the front here, there's going to be these 3 predrilled holes here on each side, and you can use that for either lights or reflectors if you want to add those, as well as these 2 predrilled points here, which if your gear is going to be covering up your license plate, you can relocate it to this location. From the bottom of this bolt here, it's going to be about 10 inches for our ground clearance. Our closest point, this inner edge is going to be about 4-1/2 inches. The exhaust on this vehicle is going to be on the passenger side, and it faces down away from the cargo carrier, so I really don't think you have to worry about any heat-sensitive materials being put onto your cargo carrier on the passenger side at least. Right now, we have full access to our rear hatch to get anything we need. more

Curt Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

Today on this 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, we're going to be test fitting the 20 x 60 Curt Cargo Carrier, part number C18151. This has a 500-lb carrying capacity and it also has this mesh floor here which makes it easy to clean and it has this railing all the way around the cargo carrier which you can use as a tie down point for either your ratchet straps or your bungee cords. I'm going to go ahead and give you some measurements now. The first being how much we've added, measuring from the bumper to this outer rail here, we've added about 34" to the rear of the vehicle. For our ground clearance, this edge here, that's going to be about 12-1/4" and our closest point to this inner rail is going to be about 13-1/4". The exhaust on this vehicle is going to be on the passenger side, and it's actually going to face down away from the cargo carrier, so I really wouldn't worry too much about putting heat sensitive material into your cargo carrier, I don't think you're going to have any problems with that. We do, at this point, have full access to our rear hatch, I am going to go ahead and give you a break over point measurement though and that's going to be the point where the hatch itself would make contact with whatever it is you're hauling. Which, in this case, doesn't seem to be a problem, it doesn't come over your cargo carrier at all since it comes out so far. Next we'll go ahead and show off the nice feature here where it actually folds up. more

Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon- Video

Carpod Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

Today in our 2014 Subaru outback wagon we're doing a test fit of the Carpod wall 23 by 47 cargo carrier. That part number is M2205, its designed to work with 2 inch hinges. So the first thing we're going to do is take a few measurements here, are ground clearance is going to be first. We are going to have about 17 and 1/4 inches of clearance overall for our vehicle we're adding about 31 and 3/4 inches and our closes point to our Outback will be here at our reyshank 00:42 and that's going to be about 2 and 1/4 inches away there. Now on our Subaru we have a single driver's side exhaust, it does come straight out and towards the ground down here, so we're not going to have any problems carrying heat sensative materials on our carrier since it heads directly towards the ground. Now unfortunately in this position we aren't able to access our back hatch area but if we take out our pins at each corner here, we'll remove those, we're able to set our sides all the way down for a more compact position. So leave those sitting up, we'll set our pins off to the side leave them somewhere where we won't lose them like our glove box or somewhere in our vehicle. We'll pull our strap through just underneath our bars here or sides here and then we are going to close those down and its just going to make it easier to pull out and secure our sides, so they don't move whenever we're driving down the road. Now in this position here we are able to access our back hatch area, we can get anything in or out that we may need, and we might be able to stand in between the carrier and the vehicle. more

Today on our 2016 Subaru Outback, we're doing a test on the Car Pod, 23 by 47 Walled Cargo Carrier. Now this has been designed to carry up to 450 pounds and it's for use with two inch hitches. The part number on it is M2205. Obviously this carrier stands out as opposed to a lot of the other cargo carriers cause it does offer us full protection around the outside for our items. So even if we're loading up smaller items or several little things that typically wouldn't work well on a cargo carrier, this is kind of gonna fill that void for us. Now the sides themselves are gonna be about 22 inches off of our platform. All the way around there. more
