If we look at the cradles, we're going to see this nice rubber TPE padding. Now, what that's going to do is the TPE padding is going to act as a shock absorber for the frame of our bike during travel and it's going to protect it from any type of scratches or abrasions. These cradles are stationary, meaning they don't move side to side, or up and down the bike rack.If we look at our bike, we're going to see it secured at three different points of contact. We're going to have these two ZipStrips on the top of our bike frame securing them into the cradles. If we come down here, we're going to see this anti-rattle cradle. Now, when the ZipStrip is securing the frame of our bike into the anti-rattle cradle, that's going to prevent our bike from swaying too much during travel, preventing any vehicle to bike contact, or bike to bike contact if you have two installed.Up here, we're going to see this strap we have securing the front wheel of our bike to the frame of our bike. more

Starting with the arms, the cradles are moveable, back and forth and side to side as needed, to help out with the installation. It does have an anti-sway cradle that folds out, like so, but also folds inward. It's going to make loading the bikes much easier. How it holds the bikes in place, it's going to have the two rubber straps up at the top here, as well as one off to the side, and that's going to serve as an anti-sway cradle to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth and causing bike to bike contact, or bike to vehicle contact. It does come with the wheel strap, as you see up front here, to ensure that the front tire here, or wheel, doesn't make contact with the actual vehicle itself. And once both bikes are installed, there's a much longer strap that goes around both bikes frames, as well as the bike rack itself, and that's going to help keep everything nice and compressed while you're traveling, to keep it from shifting back and forth as well.Let's go ahead and take the bike off. Yakima Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2017 GMC Acadia Y02636- Video

Yakima Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2017 GMC Acadia Y02636

Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 GMC Acadia, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima half-back two bike rack for trunk mounts, part number Y02636. We already have a bike installed on our rack, so let's go ahead and take a closer look and show off some of the features. We're going to start on the outside and work our way in, starting with the ends of our arms here. You're going to see that we have two bottle openers here, and this is going to be slightly different from the full-back in this situation. While this has two bottle openers, the full-back's going to have the added integrated cable lock to keep your bike safe. Not to say that this bike rack is inferior in any way, this is one that has less bells and whistles than the full-back.Moving on to the cradles, they are stationary, meaning they don't move back and forth, but they do have this TPE padding here at the base, and that's going to help protect the frame of your bike by acting as a shock absorber while you're traveling, so if you hit those bumps, it's going to make sure nothing gets damaged or scratched up. more

Now, right away when comparing the halfback to the Yakima fullback it doesn't have as many of the premium . Excuse me, the premium features. It still is a quality bike rack. The only things there are missing are like the rubber coated cam-buckle straps and the cable lock here at the end of the dual arms. more

Yakima Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2018 Toyota Corolla

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Toyota Corolla, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima Fullback Two Bike Rack for trunk mounts, part number Y02634. We already have our bike installed on the rack. Let's take a closer look here and show off some of the features.Starting off at our ends here, on the one we have the Yakima bottle opener, which is pretty common among most of their bike racks. On the other end, however, we do have this integrated cable lock. How it works is, if you we're to have a bike on the outer cradles here, this would come out, wrap around the frame of that, and attach to this point here and lock into place to secure your bikes onto the bike rack. The cradles themselves are stationary, meaning they don't move back and forth or side-to-side, but they do have this TPE padding on the top, which is actually going to act as kind of a shock absorber for when you hit those bumps to help protect the frames of your bikes. The bottom part of the ZipStrip here is also padded to help that protect the frame of your bikes as well. How this actually attaches to the bike rack, we'll have two ZipStrips up at the top, as well as one off to the side here. more

Moving onto the cradles, these are stationary meaning they can't move back and forth or side to side. We already have a bike installed on a rack, let's take a closer look here. We'll start off at the ends of our arms here. On one, we actually have the patented Yakima bottle opener as we do with most of the Yakima bike racks. On the other one, however, we have an integrated cable lock that can wrap around the very last bike and attach to the point here to be locked into place. This will keep both bikes secure on the rack, once it's installed.Moving on the actual cradles here, these are stationary, meaning they can't move back and forth, but they're spaced enough apart where spacing shouldn't be an issue. more

Yakima Trunk Bike Racks Review - 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport

Speaker 1: Today, in our 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, we're going to be test fitting the Yakima full back two bike rack for trunk mounts, part number Y02634.We already have a bike installed on the rack. Let's go ahead and take a closer look here. Starting out with the arms, on the end of one we're going to have the Yakima bottle opener. However, on the other end, we're gonna have an integrated cable lock, which you wrap around the bike in the front and attach it to this point here to secure your bikes to the bike rack. The cradles are stationary, but they do have a super-cush 00:00:30 material where the bike is going to make contact with the rack, and this is to help prevent any scratches or anything like that getting to your frame. It's gonna grip your bike at three points. We'll have to zip strips up at the top, as well as one off to the side, and that's gonna be your anti-sway cradle to keep the bike from moving too far back and forth and causing bike-to-bike contact. Now, when it comes to loading and unloading bikes, what I recommend is you take that anti-sway cradle, and you push it up all the way, and that's gonna make unloading and loading much easier. You're not gonna have to go back and forth and shimmy it off when you're installing your bikes.Alright, lets go ahead and take the bike off and set it aside. more

As you can see we do already have our bike on the rack, so we're just going to show you how we strap everything down to start. We've got two cradles holding in our bike and three straps, two on the frame here and one as your anti-sway strap. To release those we're just going to pull down and lift up, saving that anti-sway strap for last. It's going to keep the bike from swinging back and forth and possibly damaging either your rack, bike, or your vehicle. Take that off and set it off to the side. A good habit to get into is to always replace your straps. Now that we've got those back in place we can take a few measurements. more

Malone Pilot 2 Bike Platform Rack Review- Video

Malone Pilot 2 Bike Platform Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Trunk Mount, Malone Pilot 2-Bike Platform Rack, part number MPG2133. The Malone Pilot Platform Trunk Mount Rack is great for pairing up to two bikes of varying types and sizes. It can carry mountain bikes to road bikes, to alternate frame bikes, as well as kids bikes, although some may require the use of a bike adapter bar, which is sold separately and can be found on etrailer.com.Since this is a platform style bike rack, you're gonna have less bike to bike contact to worry about. Another assurance to make sure that doesn't happen is, we do have cradles that are adjustable, so you can shift the bikes to the right or to the left to make sure there's no contact as well. As opposed to most trunk mount bike racks, which are hanging style, these grip your bike by the frame up at the top. And then we have two wheel straps at the base to hold your tires in place.Once you have your bikes installed, there is a locking in cap here that, once turned, it'll just free spin and not loosen up or tighten. more

Malone Hanger Trunk Mount 3 Bike Rack Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Malone Trunk Mount Hanger 3 Bike Rack, part number MPG2139.The Malone Hanger 3 Trunk Mount Bike Rack is a fast and easy solution to carry your bikes from one place to another. It can carry a wide variety of bikes ranging from your mountain bikes to your alternate frame bikes to your kids bikes and to road bikes as well.In some cases, when loading your bikes, especially those with alternate frames or kids bikes, you may need to use an adapter bar to have it fit properly on the bike rack. Malone does carry these, and you can find them on etrailer.com's website. It holds your bike in three locations. We're gonna have two straps up at the top tube. Our third point's gonna be the strap around the side here, and that's gonna be referred to as our anti-sway cage, which is gonna keep your bike from moving too far back and forth and causing bike to bike contact. The cradles are padded and have these grooves in them so that the cables on your bike will fit inside those instead of getting crushed up against your frame once it's been initially installed. The cradles are stationary, meaning they can't move back and forth or anything like that, but they are movable to accommodate different mounting styles. more
