Best Location to Weld Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller Skid Wheels # UF48-979021 on 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
We recently purchased a 2015 Crossroads Cruiser Aire 5th wheel model CAF27RL, its external length measure approximately 29’ 11” and the dry weight is approximately 7,700 lbs. With the incline of our drive way and crown of the road the rear bumper drags the concrete when backing it into the RV space beside our home. Based on the available space and structural strength it looks like part #UF48-979021 could be welded under the end of the eye beam, 2” x 4” rectangular tubing and 3/16” – 1/4” plate or would you recommend a different skid wheel? See attached picture of the area Im thinking the skid wheels could be mounted. Thanks.

Thank you for providing a photo diagram of your 5th wheel rear frame area where you are intending to install Ultra-Fab Steel Micro-Roller Skid Wheels # UF48-979021.
The best location to weld on these rollers is at or just behind the point where the trailer's frame is making contact with the ground. If your indicated location is making contact with the ground (but nothing behind it is) then it would be a suitable spot. If there is scraping behind your indicated location, such as on the rear-most horizontal cross member at the far right of the photo then that would be a better installation point.
We also offer taller rollers; part # UF48-979022 is 2-1/2-inches tall; part # UF48-979023 is 3-inches tall. If there is scraping at multiple points on the trailer frame then taller skid wheels would be called for.
