Troubleshooting Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller that Wont Light Up Orange Indicating it is Level
Question:
the brake controller light is green when hooked up to my trailer. when I apply the brakes the light goes to red and will not adjust with the gain or level knobs. Is there a short on the trailer side?

It could be that the Tekonsha Voyager # 39510 that you have is not leveled properly from side to side and that is why you can't get the light to turn orange. You need to make sure that the controller is level completely from side to side. See attached picture.
The other possibility is that you have a short on the brake output circuit of either your trailer or tow vehicle. Typical things that cause this are corrosion on the trailer connectors or an exposed wire somewhere between the brake controller and the brake assemblies. You would need to trace the wiring of this circuit looking for any obvious signs of shorts and fix as necessary.
You also need to make sure the controller itself is grounding properly. If the controller isn't grounding properly it can cause the problem you are experiencing.
