Trailer Wiring and 4-Pole to 7-Pole Adapter for a 2010 Toyota Tacoma
Question:
I am ordering a hitch for my 2010 Tacoma V6 and I want to use the round 7 prong plug in. I would like the correct compatible part numbers to accomplish this I wish to mount the receiver end of the plug to the hitch itself and Id like to use the plug receiver that handles both the round and flat plugs. Thank you for your attention.

For your 2010 Toyota Tacoma, I recommend using the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118496, and our electric brake controller installation kit, # ETBC7. These items will provide all of the wiring connectors for installation of a 4-Way and 7-Way RV connector at the back of your Tacoma.
I have included the instructions and videos for the custom wiring, # 118496, and # ETBC7 kit, that should prove helpful.
To install and wire the 7-Way connection, plug the 4-pole adapter coming out of the 7-Way connector into the 4-pole trailer connector attached to the vehicle. Ground the 7-Way connector by screwing the white wire into the frame of the vehicle. Make a small cut in the rubber sheath of the duplex cable and slightly separate the two wires inside. Use a butt connector to connect the black wire in the duplex cable to the 12 volt hot lead (black wire on the 7-way connector). Then do the same for the white wire in the duplex cable and the brake wire (blue wire on the 7-way connector).
Next, route the duplex cable under the vehicle all the way up to the engine compartment under the hood, being careful to avoid hot areas or those that may pinch the cable. The brake wire (now white) needs to be separated from the 12 volt hot lead (black). The 12 volt hot lead will stay under the hood, where it will be connected to the positive post of the battery via a 40-amp circuit breaker.
You may also need to add a brake controller if your trailer has electric brakes. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885. It is one of our most popular and highest rated brake controllers. I have included a link to the installation instructions below. If you add a brake controller additional wiring will be required. We have an excellent FAQ (part of which is used above) for wiring a brake controller. I have linked it below.
