Parts Needed to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
Hello, I watched your video, not quite my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, 99 and 2008 I think. I do not have the blue connector like the video in mine, I see there is 4 or 5 wires to the connector that plugs in the back of the unit. Can you tell me how to wire it, in the event I dont have the connector.

On your 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, if your truck did not come with a factory installed 4- or 7-Way trailer connector then that blue connector for a brake controller would not be there. If it did come with a factory 4- or 7-Way trailer connector then that connector should be there. You may have to fish around for it. It could have also fell behind the driver side kick panel.
If you do not have a factory 4- or 7-Way then you will have to hardwire in the brake controller. You will start by adding a 4-Way, # 118329. If the truck has a 4-Way already you will not have to add one.
Next you will need 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. I have included some links to the right that will help with this installation.
The last thing you would need is the brake controller. I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. In the event the truck came with a factory 4- or 7-Way you would use brake controller harness # 3020-P as well. If it did not come with a factory trailer connector you would not need this harness.
