Long 1/2 Inch Chrome Lug Nuts for a 2005 Hitchhiker 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I have a 2005 Hitchhiker 5th wheel trailer. The lug nuts for the aluminum wheels are 2 inches total in length and 1/2 inch thread. The lug nut hole is very deep on the wheels . Do you think the 1 in. x 1- 7/8 in. lug nut will work. The lug nuts I have on the trailer now have the sleeve cover and when I used a impact wrench on them they come apart an scratched the aluminum wheels.

Expert Reply:
Since your old lug nuts were 2 inches long, I recommend using # 12CLN-L which has an overall length of 1-15/16 inches, close enough to call it a 2 inch long lug nut.
I do not recommend the use of an impact wrench, not because of the damage like you have experienced but because the lug nuts should be torqued to a specific amount. For a 1/2"-20 it should be 75 to 85 foot pounds.
