Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2003 Chevy TrailBlazer
Question:
Is this towbar compatable with your faceplate 3109-1 roadmaster for a 2003 chevy trailblazer LT EXT which weights 5000 lbs

Expert Reply:
Yes, I checked with Roadmaster and the Explorer tow bar you have is compatible with the XL style base plates like the part # 3109-1 that you referenced. Only issue you might run into is that the Explorer has a 5k capacity which is what you listed the weight of your vehicle as. If you happen to be below 5k then this tow bar would work. Otherwise, you will need to upgrade your tow bar.
The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. This has a 6k capacity which would work for you. For safety cables you can use # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting you can use the bulb and socket kit, # RM-155, and not have to worry about cutting and splicing into the vehicle wiring.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking in the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest system to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system, # RM-9400, that applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the two vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. You will also want the fuse bypass kit part # RM76511 as your vehicle requires that a fuse get pulled to flat tow.
I have included a couple of helpful links to our articles on flat towing for you. Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual for more specific information on flat towing your vehicle.
