Best Mid-Priced Brake Controller for 2013 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I need a recommendation for a brake controller on a recently purchased 2013 Silverado that has the 7 plug in the rear. I will be towing a 4 wheel camper trailer. There are a ton to choose from, is there a quality, middle of the road unit that is compatible with this truck ? THANKS

There are two categories of brake controller, time delayed or proportional. The proportional is preferable, because proportional controllers feature an internal accelerometer that senses how quickly the tow vehicle s braking. The controller will send the proper amount of voltage to the trailer brakes so that the tow vehicle and the trailer stop at the same rate. This leads to safer and more predictable braking. Because neither the tow vehicle nor the trailer is doing all the work, you'll get more life out of your brake pads or shoes as well.

As long as your trailer uses a standard electric braking system, a mid-priced controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 would be an excellent choice. There are less expensive proportional controllers available, but they won't be as easy to use or to set up.

I've linked you to some help articles and videos that will assist you with the installation.
