Installation Instructions for Breakaway Kit Part # 50-85-313 and Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 38656
Question:
I purchased this breakaway kit and the Junction Box #38656. I have seen different people say that the wiring needs to be ran different ways. Can you show me how the wiring has to be ran, using the listed breakaway kit and junction box, in order for everything to work properly?

The wiring for the Tekonsha breakaway kit # 50-85-313 and trailer wiring junction box # 38656 is listed below. You can also view the picture to the right.
The breakaway kit will have 3 wires to hook up where as the breakaway switch will have 2 wires. Take either brake switch wire and connect to the blue wire from the battery box. The other switch wire is output to the trailer brakes. White is ground and black will connect to the 12 volt circuit from the 7-way connector.
The trailer wiring junction box # 38656 is an easy way to connect wires from the trailer connector to the trailer wiring. You will take the grey cable and peel it back a little bit as you will run the white cable to the ground in the junction box. Since you may have different color wiring see the diagram to the right and match wires by function. See diagram to the right.
I have included a FAQ link as well as a few installation videos.
