If your 2005 Ford Explorer came originally equipped with a factory 7-way the # part # HM40975 would be all that you would need to install it on your vehicle.

If not, then you would need to start with a 4-way if you don't have one already. For that you would want part # 18252. Now to convert to a 7-way you have two options. If the trailer you plan on towing has trailer brakes you would need part # ETBC7.

If you trailer doesn't have brakes you would instead want the # 37185.

If your trailer has brakes you will need a brake controller. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
