Replacing Factory Installed Brake Controller with P2 Brake Controller on 2014 Dodge RAM 2500
Question:
I ordered a new RAM 2500 Laramie Longhorn edition. It has a built in factory brake controller. I am concerned as there is no information on how the factory installed controller works, whether it is time based or inertia type. Hmmm...That being said, I have owned a Prodigy P2 on my last vehicle, and was extremely happy with the performance of the P2. My question is, can I install the P2 or P3 on this truck, if I am not happy with the factory one? Since so much today is computer interfaced, am I flirting with trouble trying to use a Prodigy? Which wiring harness to use? And, lastly, does the factory installed one have to be disabled, and how to do it? Is this something the dealer will have to get into the programming of the truck computer to disable? Thanks in advance for your help.

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and he said you want to unplug the four wire connector behind the dash just to the right of your right knee (see FAQ article at right). You will then want to take the truck to your local Dodge dealer and have them turn off the factory brake controller.
You can then install the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter, part # 3023-P and your Tekonsha P2 brake controller, # 90885, as shown in the FAQ I have included and then you are good to go.
