Spindle Identification on an Old Horse Trailer

Question:

I need to replace a hub on an old horse trailer. It is a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern, 10inch hub and brake assembly. The spindle is 3/4inch diameter outer and 1-1/4inch diameter inner. It measures 5-1/2inch total, and 4-1/4inch from the inner edge of the inner bearing to the end of the threads on the outer end. The diameter of the sealing surface measures 1.66. I cannot find a brake hub for it, and the old one is cracked. Can you help?

Based on the diameter of the spindle where the seal rides and the outer bearing dimension being .75 it sounds like you have the agricultural spindle # TRU54FR. Check out the chart in the product description that shows all of the dimensions of the spindle to verify this. You will need to use a dial caliper or micrometer to get an exact measurement.

Only problem is that none of the hubs we offer that will fit this spindle are hub and drums nor have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

If I am right, we don't have exactly what you need and it may be impossible to find the right replacement hub. Then the next best option would be to replace the axle. You would want to find your closest trailer parts store and have them order in the correct axle(s). You will need to know the distance between the hub faces and the distance between spring centers to pick out the correct axles.
