Installing Aftermarket Brake Controller on 2010 Ford F-150 with Integrated Factory Brake Controller
Question:
i have a 2010 f-150 with the integrated brake controller. i have had it in the shop several times over the past 2 years because there is low voltage going to the trailer when pressing the brake peddle. ford has just now told them that that is the way they designed it. only 2.4 volts at 40 miles/hr and below then gradually goes up when travelling faster. no good as far as i am concerned. i would like brakes at all speeds.i have worn out 2 sets of rotors and pads because of this in just 50,000 miles. i want to install an aftermarket controller. do you know if my truck will be plug and play since it now has the integrated controller or would it be hard wired in? thanks

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha and even though your 2010 Ford F-150 is equipped with an integrated controller, it is still plug and play wired.
In order to install an aftermarket brake controller like the Prodigy P3, # 90195, you will just need to unplug the wiring for the integrated controller and remove it. Next you will use the Tow Ready Plug-In Wiring Adapter, # 22292, to install the Prodigy P3.
Please note that when removing the factory installed controller, this will set a fault code. The only way to remove this code is to have the factory controller turned off by your local Ford dealer. I have attached an FAQ that covers this.
