Hitch Extender Recommendation to Use a Swagman XTC-2 on a 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

I have a Swagman XTC-2 which has been a fantastic platform rack for my Ford Edge. I am now considering the purchase of a Jeep Wrangler. Although I havent measured yet, it seems like the Swagman platform rack will probably not clear the spare tire, so I am thinking about using a hitch extender. I realize that this reduces hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 i.e. from 300 lbs to 150 lbs but with only 2 bikes 25-30 lbs each plus the rack, there is still sufficient tongue weight capacity. I could also add hitch tighteners to reduce bounce. Would this work, or do I need to purchase a new platform bike rack with more clearance?

Although using a hitch extender isn't an ideal solution for most people I think one would work well for you. Especially if you use an anti-rattle device like the part # 63232 to minimize movement.

You shouldn't need a very long extender. The Hitch Extender # HE06 will give you an additional 7 inches and would work well. I attached a review video for you to check out.
