Can a Second Friction Bar Sway Control be Added to an EAZ Lift Weight Distribution System
Question:
I have purchased a 30foot work and play toy hauler. Its loaded weight is 13k. Being towed by a 2004 dodge 2500 diesel 4x4 with air bags. Current hitch is a EAZ-lift with weight distribution and a passenger side sway bar. Can I add a drivers side one? Do they sell a weld on plate for the hitch or do I have to buy a whole new system?

It is possible that you could have sway control tab, # 3442, welded to the head of your existing weight distribution system. But you would need to speak with a tech over at Camco who makes the EAZ Lift systems to determine if it is ok to weld onto the head. They may have a different head option that will allow you to use 2 friction sway bars without having to weld on a tab.
If there is no alternate head and the tab cannot be welded on then you would want a new system to be able to utilize the sway control.
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
A trailer that weighs 13,000 pounds would have a tongue weight of 1,300 pounds to 1,950 pounds if not more. If the total tongue weight is upwards of 1,950 pounds then a Blue Ox Sway Pro system rated for up to 2,000 pounds tongue weight, # BXW2000, would be the best option. Sway control is built into these systems. You would just need to add a ball, # 63840.
I have included a couple of links to the right on weight distribution and sway control and determining tongue weight for you.
