Recommended Thule Fairing for the 2014 Ford Escape is Too Long

Question:

I purchased the recommended size fairing for my 2014 Ford Escape, 44 inch. I also have factory roof rails and installed the Thule square bar mounts that attach to the factory roof rails. Although this is the correct size for my vehicle, the fairing does not fit. It seems to be too long, the ends of the fairing, the plastic edges extend just beyond the factory roof rails, so the fairing does not sit correctly and straight across on the roof like it should. Is there any way to make it fit? This is the exact size that Thule and everyone else recommends and states will fit on my vehicle

What's also interesting is that Yakima recommends a shorter fairing than Thule for your 2014 Ford Escape. They recommend a 38 inch fairing. Would going with a shorter fairing allow it to clear the raised rails on your vehicle? The next shortest fairing would be the Thule Fairing 38 inch part # TH72WV.
