Brake Controller And Wiring Recommendation For 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Looking to put a 7 pin connector and controller on a 2013 Wrangler Unlimited with factory 4 pin tow package. Would like to use the P3 controller if possible and not splice wires. Also does a controller exist I can move between trucks? Cant tow one trailer with tow trucks at the same time. Second truck is a 2004 Frontier crew cab NISMO 4x4. Thanks

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3, part # 90195, is a great choice for a brake controller. It has 5 storable settings which lets you customize the settings so that the controller can be used in multiple vehicles, or for various size loads. For your 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, there are no plug and play adapters that are available but I do have a solution that will work for you.
The P3 comes with a plug-in adapter. One end plugs into the back of the controller and the other end is hardwired under the dash of your Jeep. You can unplug the controller and use it in your 2004 Nissan Frontier NISMO when needed.
For your Frontier, you will need the Pigtail Wiring Harness, part # 7894. This will be hardwired in your Frontier, and give you the connector that attaches to the P3 controller. All you will need to do then is install a mounting bracket like part # TK5904 in your Frontier and then simply plug the connector into the back of the P3.
You said you have a 4-way connector on your Wrangler. You can use part # ETBC7, and that will give you a 4-way and a 7-way connector at the rear of your Wrangler.
For your Frontier, if you have a 4-way connector, you will also need the # ETBC7 to be able to use the P3 with a trailer. If you do not have a 4-way connector on your Frontier, I recommend part # 118362. This will easily plug into the existing wiring on your Frontier and requires no cutting or splicing.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
I have attached several helpful articles that explains brake controllers and their installations. I have also linked articles for wiring you can check out.
