Does the Voyager LED Light Come On without a Trailer Connected
Question:
The instructions indicate that the LED should show red when the trailer is not attached. Im assuming this means that initial vehicle installation before hooking up trailer should give me a red LED. But I got nothing....dark. The instructions arent very clear about what to expect at this point and I didnt really want to hook up the trailer until I could verify that the unit itself is good. And yes, I triple checked the wiring with meter....nothing wrong there. Anyway, at that point, I took the unit back and exchanged for another one. The new one did the same thing....no LED, red, green or in between. Heres my questions: Will the LED just not come on at all until attaching the trailer? Is there an on switch Im missing? Was I unlucky twice? Dealers usually dont take electronic devices back if theyve been hooked up or used so I have to make up some other excuse for the return and convince them I never opened the pkg. Thats not going to work much longer.

The LED light on the Voyager trailer brake controller # 39510 will only come on when a trailer is connected. So, it sounds like your (2) controllers were fine. But you can check to make sure the controller is getting power if you wanted to. Just use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the black wire. There should be power on that wire once the controller is installed, with or without a trailer connected.
So, on the Voyager, no light unless a trailer is connected.
