Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack for Electric Bikes with Step-Through Frames on a 2008 Toyota RAV4
Question:
Hi, We want to purchase a 2-bike rack to fit our 2008 Toyota RAV4 with a 2 inch hitch. We have been reading about various models and really like the Thule 69TX, but are concerned that the ratcheting hook would not work well with our front fenders. Every picture shows bikes without fenders. Can you recommend a bike rack that fit our 2 biked with fenders and step through frames? Our bikes are electric commuter style and are on the heavy side-approx 60 lbs with battery attached.

First the # TH69TX that the mentioned is for 4 bikes. The 2 bike version of this Thule T2 Pro XTR is the # TH83JV.
You are correct, bikes that have fenders would not fit well on the Thule T2, # TH83JV or the # TH69TX. . Since you have such heavy bikes I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE, # HLY84FR, which has a 80 pound per bike capacity.
If the step-through frame is like the one in the video I have linked to the right then the hooks will go down far enough to secure the bikes.
In the event they do not you can use adapter bar # 64005 to secure the bikes to the rack. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
