How To Hard Wire a Trailer Harness to a 1982 Jeep CJ 5

Hi, Your how to videos are so helpfull. Before I purchase the parts from you can you please help with a video on how to hard wire my 1982 Jeep CJ 5 with 4 pole flat. Thanks

We have not yet had the opportunity to install trailer wiring on any of the older Jeeps yet. You will need a circuit tester, part # PTW2993, to make sure you have the right wires, but it is a pretty straight-forward install once you get your hands on some wires.

The white wire on the connector is a ground wire, so it needs to be attached to the vehicle frame. There will probably other wires nearby grounded to the frame that you could splice to.

The brown wire is for the running lights. Turn on your headlights. Using the circuit tester, locate the wire going into your taillights that has power with the headlights on.

The yellow wire is for the driver side blinker and brake. Turn on the left blinker and go to the driver side tail light. Find the wire that pulses on and off with the blinker.

Repeat the same process, but over on the passenger side for the right side blinker on the green wire. You can see the same process happen on the Ford Taurus video linked below. I have also linked to a video of wiring install on a 1996 Jeep Wrangler that may be helpful for accessing the tail lights.
