Wiring a brake controller on your F-150 will depend on what factory wiring is installed on the vehicle.
You will need a brake controller and an adapter, item # 3035-P, to connect to the under dash connector on your truck. The Tekonsha #9030 Voyager Brake Activator, item # 39510, is an excellent brake controller.
Then if you have a factory 7-way your wiring should be complete with the installation of the wiring harness and brake controller.
If you have a factory 4-Way controller then you will need the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole, item # 37185, to complete the wiring on your truck. You will need to splice the black wire to the power wire on the forward side of the wiring connection on the drivers side frame rail and you will need to splice the blue wire to the brake output in the same location.
If you do not have a factory 4-Way connector you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, item # 118316, along with the items mentioned above.
