Question:
I have a 05 chevy trailblazer ext 4x4 that I want to flat tow behind my motorhome. The curb weight is 4775 and the gross weight is 6200. I was looking at the blueox tow bars and base plates. Their base plate is only rated for 5000 lbs.Can I use a towbar rated for 6500lbs on a base plate rated for 5000 I went on BlueOx site and they dont list a base plate for my trailblazer. Can you recommend any thing.

The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX1709, for your 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer is rated for more than 5,000 lbs. Blue Ox states that the weight capacity of their base plates are designed to match the weight capacity of the vehicle they are installed on.
The 5,000 lb limitation is if you are using a base plate adapter like part # RM-033 which allows you to use a tow bar from one manufacturer and base plates from another.
If you use the Blue Ox base plates and a Blue Ox tow bar rated for 6,500 lbs like the Alpha Tow Bar, # BX7380, then you will have enough capacity to tow your vehicle as long as the gross vehicle weight stays under 6,500 lbs. For wiring use part # RM-15267.
The final item that you may need is a supplemental braking system. Most states require a braking system when flat towing and the system I recommend is the Blue Ox Patriot, # BLU37TR.
