Tekonsha Brake Controller Indicator Light Flashes on a 2005 Dodge Ram when Truck is Off

Question:

The indicator of course goes NC when my brakes are applied on the truck with no trailer. The light flashes on and off even when the truck is shut off. That is my problem

Brake controllers will send back a little bit of voltage to check for a trailer. The Voyager, # 39510, indicator light draws only 5 milliamps of power at idle. It would take over 10,000 hours to drain the tow vehicle battery.

But since the indicator light is flashing that could indicate that the controller thinks something is drawing power. The likely cause is a dirty or corroded trailer connector. Check the vehicle side trailer connector to make sure it is free of corrosion inside and out. If the issue persists after the truck has just been sitting and turned off for 15 minutes, there could be a short elsewhere.

I have included some links to the right to help troubleshoot a brake controller.

You mentioned the indicator goes to NC when no trailer is connected. If the brake controller you are using has a display and not just indicator lights then it is something other than the Voyager. The same issue could be to blame and the troubleshooting procedures will be the same.
