Should the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller be Unplugged if it Will Not Be Used for 6 Months

Question:

I have a Prodogy P2 brake controller on a 2012 Nissan Armada. Because I am in Chicago, I only tow my camper 6 months out of the year. When not in use, either between camping trips, or extended over the winter, is it better to disconnect and remove the brake controller than leave it plugged in? Thanks

Expert Reply:

When the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, # 90885, is plugged in on your 2012 Nissan Armada but is not being used, the electrical draw from the controller is a mere 3.6 milliamps so there really is no harm in leaving the unit plugged in.

If you would feel better unplugging the unit that way the LED display does not come on every time you start your vehicle, I recommend also removing the unit from it's mounting location. From past experience, if the unit is left in place but unplugged, some have forgotten to plug the unit in before towing and this could create a very dangerous situation.
