Troubleshooting a 7-Way on a 2007 Chevy Silverado that Does Not Work with 4-Way Adapter

Question:

Hello, I have a Pollak PK11916 unit attached to the trailer wire harness that came with the vehicle. My vehicle is a 2007 Silverado new body style with the trailer package. I put a Pollak 4 pin adapter into the PK11916 but I get no power to the 4 pin connecter. Checking the power to the PK11916 with the lights on and I get a reading from one of the blades and the pins in the center of the unit. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? Thank you.

First thing you need to is determine if all of the tail light circuits of the 7-way on your 2007 Chevy Silverado are functioning correctly. You will need to use a circuit tester like our part # PTW2993 for this. Test the pin in the 3:00 position for voltage when the right turn or brakes are applied.

Test the 9:00 position for voltage when the brakes or left blinker is on.
Test the 11:00 position for voltage when the headlights or running lights are on.

If the voltage all checks out in those places but your 4-way adapter is still not working the most likely problem is the adapter is messed up or it's not seating all the way into the 7-way enough to make contact.

If there wasn't voltage on the truck's 7-way then the first place I would check is the fuse box. Check all the trailer wiring fuses and relays. Next I would check the inside and back of the 7-way for corrosion and clean as necessary.
