The Swagman S64670 does not tilt away from tail gates or hatches. Most of the wheel mount bike racks do not tip down.

Most of the bike racks that significantly tilt down to allow hatches and trunks to be opened are the hanging style racks like the Swagman Trailhead, part # S63360.

For womens bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes or step-through frames, using a frame adapter like part # TH982XT is recommended. The adapter spans the distance between the seat post and the handle bar gooseneck, and provides a level attachment point to the bike rack so the bike is not carried at an angle.
