Looking for a New ST185/80D13 Trailer Tire or Tire and Wheel Combo for a Coleman Popup Camper
Question:
I have ST185/80D13 tires on my 1998 coleman fleetwood sunridge popup camper that are wearing on the outer edges of the tires. The wheel rim says max 50 PSI, which is what I have been inflating the tires to, but I suspect is leading to the wear. The specs on your Kendra Loadstar tires have a 65 PSI max. Would those tires work on my current wheels, or should I get the tires and the wheels? Are the wheels that come with the tires rated for 65 PSI?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The Kenda Loadstar ST185/80D13 Trailer Tire, # AM1ST79, will fit on your current trailer wheels. PSI ratings are more important for tires than they are for wheels. Your current wheels should be able to support a 65 PSI with the new tires.
Outer tire wear is typically related to under-inflation or a bent spindle. If you mount new tires and have the same issue, I recommend taking your trailer to a trailer service shop to have them inspect the spindles and the axle.
If you do not want to go through the trouble of removing the old tires and installing new ones, you could use the tire and wheel combo, # AM3S331, that you referenced. The wheel in this combo is rated for 65 psi and it has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I recommend verifying the bolt pattern of your current wheels before purchasing a new wheel. I have attached a help article on how to determine your bolt pattern if you are not familiar with wheel bolt patterns.
