Hitch for 2013 Mazda 3 Hatchback to Allow Use of Bike Rack
Question:
I am interested in buying a hitch bike rack, and also a hitch for my 2013 Mazda 3 hatchback. I noticed the most popular hitch has a LED taillight and a non LED taillight version...why does it matter? Im not sure if my taillights are LED or not, and Im afraid to buy the wrong one. Thanks for your help!!

The various 1-1/4-inch Class I trailer hitches for your 2013 Mazda 3 Hatchback all will fit both versions of the vehicle; those with LED lighting and those without. All share the same 200-lb tongue weight capacity and all are rated as fairly simple installations. Since they all have the same capacity, I suggest the most cost-effective option, # 24843 from Draw-Tite. I have linked the installation instructions as well as two helpful article concerning hitch installation.
With this hitch in place on your Mazda 3 Hatchback you can use a compatible 2-bike Class I rack.
Hitches are rated by class, and a Class I hitch is a light-duty type that can handle the weight of only two bikes - even if the rack can hold more. This has to do with the strength of the vehicle's frame where the hitch attaches. Your vehicle cannot handle the weight of more than two bikes (and a carrier) loaded on its frame. The linked article on hitch classes will explain in further detail.
I have provided a link to all of the compatible 2-bike Class I hitch-mount racks that will fit the 1-1/4-inch Draw-Tite hitch. You still have many options from which to choose, including hanging-style or platform-style racks, wheel-mount or frame-mount and racks that include locks.
If you'd like to tell me about the bikes themselves (beach cruiser vs. mountain bike vs. child's bike)
I will be glad to offer specific recommendations.
