Question:
Can I trust this hitch to support about a 3000 lb boat and trailer with about a 300 lb tongue weight?

Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75679 is rated for up to 4,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 400 pounds tongue weight so it can easily handle a 3,000 pound boat with 300 pounds tongue weight. You will want to check the owners manual for your 2012 Ford Flex to make sure it also has the capacity needed.
If your Flex did not come with a factory installed trailer connector you can add one using wiring harness # 118472. It just plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have included links to videos showing installations of the hitch and wiring for you.
If your boat trailer has a 5-Way flat then you will also need an adapter, # 20036. Normally the 5th function is for an electric reverse lockout. But if the boat trailer uses a 4-Way you will not need this adapter.
To complete your towing set up I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It includes 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
