Installation of Curt Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs 13703

Question:

Do you think there would be a problem if the bolting plate was raised about 2inch from the flange on the I-Beam? I want to gain a few more inches of ground clearance. I was also thinking of putting a 2inch shim or spacer between the plate and the flange so I could still install the two bolts.

I would feel more confident if the shims you mentioned where welded to the I-beam so the side brackets of Curt hitch # 13703 are supported on the bottoms. If the side brackets were supported in this manner then you shouldn't have any problem installing the hitch like you want.
