Recommended Tow Bar For 2008 Ford Edge

First, you will want to consult your Ford Edge owner's manual to determine the proper procedure for towing. If you find you can flat tow your Edge, there are 6 items you will need.

First, you will need base plates to provide a secure attachment point for a tow bar. For your 2008 Ford Edge you can use Roadmaster XL Base Plat Kit # 4408-1. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

Next, you will need a tow bar. I recommend RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar part # RM-520. This bar is one of the most popular options with our customers. I have included a link to the tow bar's installation on a Hyundai Elantra.

You will also want to use a pair of safety cables like # RM-643 or # RM-645.

Next you will need a lighting solution for your Edge. I recommend Roadmaster Standard Magnetic Tow Lights part # RM-2120. The system is self-contained and requires no splicing into your vehicle's electrical system.

You will also need the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass # RM76511. Simply remove the fuse indicated in your car's manual and replace it with the bypass. The system will hold the removed fuse and maintain its functionality. Once the initial installation is complete, you don't have to remove or replace your fuse again. I have included a video of fuse bypass installation on a 2013 Ford Edge.

Last, most states require a supplemental braking system in the vehicle being flat towed. The most popular supplemental braking system with our customers is the Roadmaster Invisibrake part # RM-8700. I have attached a demonstration video for you to check out.

If you use the Invisibrake you need to ground the light kit to the vehicle frame and not through the regular connector because the Invisibrake needs a substantial ground.
