Does Exhaust Have To Be Lowered When Installing A Trailer Hitch On 2014 Dodge Dart

Question:

I am picking up a new 2014 Dodge Dart with dual exhaust and plan to put a hitch on it. I notice that your descriptions for the Draw-tite, and the Curt all say the exhaust must be temporarily lowered. Does the exhaust need to be lowered and, if so, whats involved in doing that? Thanks.

Many times the manufacturer suggests lowering the exhaust to provide more room to work with when installing a hitch, it is not always required. If you decide there is simply not enough room to work with and want to lower the exhaust it is quite simple to do so by removing a rubber grommet and the strap that holds the exhaust securely. You should always make certain your car exhaust is cool before working close to it under the vehicle.

I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C11281 for your 2014 Dodge Dart with dual exhaust. This is a Class l hitch and features a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.

If you are planning on towing, check with your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the vehicle towing weight capacity.

If you are planning on towing I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch, part # 24890. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.

For a 1-7/8 inch ball I recommend part # 19256, and for a 2 inch ball you can order part # 19258.
