Trailing Wiring Harness Installation in a 1997 Acura SLX
Question:
HI - I found the trailer lighting kit for my 1997 Acura SLX suv but I want to know if it comes with directions showing the color code I of the wires I will need to tap into. I see the kit has the usual colors of a trailer harness but these do not match the colors of the wires in the car - I earlier purchased a kit from another place but cannot get any of it to work because the colors do not match the wiring in my car. If your kit telss me exactly what to do than I definitely want one but if I have just guess at the wires hook up it will not help - my owners manual does not show this wiring layout thanks

The trailer wiring kit for your 1997 Acura SLX that you referenced, Curt Wiring Harness # C56175, is a hard-wire type that requires cutting and splicing of wires. Since vehicle manufacturers are not 100-percent consistent in their use of wire colors, the only reliable method for hard-wiring a trailer harness is to use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 to test the function on each wire (while a helper activates the various functions on the vehicle).
A simpler alternative is to use a custom fit harness that just plugs in on your SLX. We offer the Curt # C55339 that plugs in without cutting or splicing wires. Written installation instructions are linked for your reference.
