Recommended Flat Towing Components For A 2024 Ford Bronco With A Roadmaster Tow Bar

Question:

Have a 24 Ford Bronco four-door full size I would like to flat tow it I have a Roadmaster tow bar I need brackets and wiring. Also info on supplemental towing. I have a 45-ft motorhome diesel pusher. Is this something I can do myself or should I hire a professional? Do you have people in my area? What should I expect to pay to have it installed?

Hi Wayne,

If your Bronco has a factory plastic bumper then the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM79RR will be a fit for your Bronco and Roadmaster Tow Bar. If you have a different style bumper then let me know and I can look for the correct fit.

For the wiring you'll first need to determine the type of lights you have and if you have variable voltage wiring. To determine if you have variable voltage tail lights you'll need to pull the tail light out to get to the wiring and test wires with a probe tester # PTW2993 in order to see if the same wire powers both the running lights and brakes.

If you do have variable voltage LED tail lights then you'll need the Roadmaster Smart Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Wiring Kit for Variable Voltage LED Tail Lights # RM38FR. If you have variable voltage incandescent tail lights then you'll need # RM26FR instead. If you do not have variable voltage tail lights then you can just use standard diodes, like those included with part # RM-15267.

For the braking system I recommend the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Flat Tow Brake System # HM39524. This system can be easily installed/removed in just a few minutes and is transferrable to other vehicles in the event that you want to swap out your towed vehicle later on. It comes with a remote that will display when the brakes are being applied in the Bronco and will also allow you to adjust your settings without having to stop and go back to the main unit. A charge line is also included to help keep the battery charged while you tow.

If you don't have safety cables then I'd also pick up the # RM-643.

As for installation, the # RM79RR is a pretty easy install because it takes the place of your tow hooks. It does require a bit of drilling into the frame but you won't have to cut off any pieces like other baseplates require. If you or a friend are somewhat comfortable working on cars you could knock this out in an afternoon.

The wiring is a bit more nerve-racking because you're cutting into factory wiring but if you take your time and just follow the directions it's really simple, just time consuming.

If you don't feel comfortable doing the installations then you can use our Installer Locator (linked below) to find a local shop to get your Bronco ready to flat tow.
