Can a Factory Trailer Brake Controller be Replaced With Aftermarket on a 2018 Silverado 1500?

Hi, I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a factory trailer brake controller . I have been having problems with it and want to install an aftermarket brake controller . Can you recommend one that will work and would the factory brake controller need to be disabled for the new one to work. Thanks Peter

First you are going to have to have the programming removed from you ECU for the factory trailer brake controller. As I assume you liked the clean looks of the factory controller I would recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller # RED44FR. This has a small dash mounted control knob for a clean appearance and simple operation. To connect to the factory wiring you will need the Plug-and-Play Wiring Harness # 331-TPH-010.
