Tire Clearance on Fabricated Trailer Using Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # A35RD545E

Question:

I studied the technical drawing for the Timbren part # A35RD545E but I am still unclear as to my application. I want to build a deck over enclosed trailer without interior wheel wells. I am using 2x4x11 gauge rectangular tubing for the main frame. On top of the main frame will be 2x2x11 gauge square tubing every 24inch on center. The floor will go down on top of the square tubing. Will there be enough room for a 15inch tire including bump clearance? Thanks.

The overall diameter of a 15-inch tire will range from 27.1-inches for a 205/75-15 size to 28.4-inches for a 225/75-15 size. The linked article offers a table with tire dimensions.

The standard deflection of the Timbren 3500-lb system # A35RD545E with a static load (sitting still in the driveway) is 2-5/8-inches according to my contact at Timbren. It was suggested that to this you add several more inches of clearance to allow for the effects of bumps.

You will need to use the overall diameter for your chosen tire size to determine how to construct the trailer structure to allow for this necessary clearance.
