If a Hub Fits 5K to 7K Axles, What Makes a 7K Axle More Heavy Duty than a 5K Axle

Question:

If this hub is rated from 5-7k , what makes a 7k heavier duty than a 5k axle besides the springs? Is it all in the axle tube???

A hub such as # 42866UC3 fits on the spindle which is welded to the axle and spindles can have different capacities as well. The camber or bow of an axle, its length, the quality of materials, the diameter, and many other factors go into its capacity rating. So in a way, yes, it is all in the axle tube, that and other factors as mentioned above.

Ideally you will get parts that are rated the same as the axle. Otherwise you can end up with a poor ride or tracking problems. Adding higher capacity suspension, tires, or wheels does not increase the axle capacity since the axle rating is still fixed.
