Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer that Weighs 7,000 lb
Question:
I am considering buying a weight Dist. Hitch. But, before I do I am trying to figure out how much my truck can tow safely. I am using a couple tow calculators I found online. My travel trailer is 6618LBS dry weight. My GVWR is 7977LBS. I am estimating roughly 350LBs. of cargo. For simplicity, lets just say my dry weight plus cargo = 7000lbs. When using the calculator Im thinking I would want to put in the 7000lbs. when it asks for my GVWR and not the Max GVWR of 7977LBS. Is that correct? Also for a trailer of that size what distribution hitch would you recommend?

Hey Andrew, yes when plugging in the weight of your trailer in the calculator you are using you would want to use the actual weight of the trailer as you'd be towing it which would be 7,000 lbs and not the GVWR.
For a weight distribution system I would recommend the Strait Line part # RP66083 which has a tongue weight range of 400-800 lbs and features only sway control that works to stop sway before it starts.

Thanks Jameson, but my trailer says it has tongue weight of 977Lbs. (Which I thought was a little high considering the dry weight is 6618lbs. Would that hitch still work? I looked at it and it says 600 to 800lbs. Tongue weight????
