Why Would Two Fireplaces Suddenly Stop Working In An RV
Question:
My power cord to the 5th wheel went bad, burned out where the cord connects to the trailer, 2020 crossroads cameo. The prongs on the trailer did not get damaged but the ground hole on the plug burnt up. After getting another power cord and slowly letting the batteries to charge up, fridge cool and even tested the hot water heated up, i tried the greystone heater in the front room but didn’t work. I tried the bedroom one and it didn’t work. I removed the front room heater after checking breakers and volt tested outlet and was 120. I plugged in the heater to different outlet and still doesn’t work, tested the power on the board to see if power was there and it was and went over to the heating element silver canister and found power. Buttons nor remote work. How can two heaters go out at the same time when they were not in use? Just cause they were plugged in when the power cord went out?

Hi Jeremy,
It sounds to me like there was a power surge that ran through your trailer and at minimum the fireplaces took too much voltage and blew. You can try disconnecting them from power for 15 minutes and then retesting them but it sounds like you most likely had them disconnected for a longer period of time. I'd be willing to bet other sensitive electronics (stereo, tv, etc.) could also potentially be damaged.
If they don't come back on then you're unfortunately looking a complete replacement of both fireplaces as the manufacturer won't supply replacement parts to fix broken fireplaces. If you need help picking ut replacements I'll just need to know the cutout hole size to find an appropriate fit.
If you haven't already you should probably replace the power inlet as well with one like the Hughes Autoformers Safe View Smart Power Inlet # HU27VR. This inlet has LED indicators to alert you when there's an issue with the power pedestal at the campsite. You can also start using a surge protector # HU47FR to safeguard your trailer from any power surges in the future.
