Shackle Strap Size Needed For A 2021 Coachmen Catalina Trail Blazer 28THS With Lippert Equalizers
Question:
I have a 2021 Coachman Catalina 28ths. I want to replace my 13 -104 equalizer with a lippert road armour LC696740. The original is 2 inch center to center and 5.5 inches wide. The road armour has more and is wider. My original shackles are 2.25 inches center to center. Should I go with a longer shackle kit with wet bolts to retain my ride height and 33 inch wheel base?

Hey David,
The Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit # LC696740 has a 6" spacing so you'd only be taking on a 1/4" difference horizontally for both sides, which should be within tolerance for the shackle straps. Switching to a longer shackle strap like 3-1/8" # TRSL313 could help maintain your current height, but you'll run the risk of the straps sitting out of tolerance compared to the equalizer. The suspension has to be able to travel otherwise it will bind and start wearing out components quickly. If the shackle straps sit too far in or too far out the system can't properly travel and will bind. You're wanting to have the equalizer and shackle straps form a 'W' shape.
If your trailer doesn't need to be on the move right away I'd start by just ordering the 3-1/8" shackle straps and testing it out. If you need the trailer I'd go ahead and order a set of 3-1/8" and a 2-5/8" # 115052 to have something in the middle to test what sizing will work best for your setup.

The road armour has over a 3 inch drop compared to a 2 inch on the original. I thought the 3 1/8 shackles would take up this extra drop. Am I thinking this wrong? Thank you
