Why Does Curt Hitch Extender # C45048 Have Upward Bend
Question:
Why does this extension have a bend in it ? I was going to build my own but don’t understand the bend doesn’t it make the extension weaker

Expert Reply:
The Curt hitch extender part # C45048 has a slight upward bend to it because when it fits into a hitch there ends up being a slight downward angle it needs to compensate for. This is because there is a slight loose fit between the hitch and the extender which allows it to point slightly down. Since the extender is so long this gets exaggerated so a slight upward bend compensates for that and allows the hitch opening to be level.
