Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO - Notification Light Is Flickering After Alternate Wiring
Question:
SM99251 Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System. I have this installed on my 2011 Wrangler and the indicator light is flickering. I noticed that during a gentle braking event that the indicator light flickered some but the went to solid as braking was increased. I do have the indicator light attached to the blue wire coming off the pump unit/brake away wire. This was an alternate wiring as it was difficult to get to the brake light switch. Is the flickering normal? I’m thinking it is the pump gently starting during its progressive operation.

The notification light for the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 should be solid when it is on and it should not be flickering. It is intended to be wired to the cold side of the brake switch. This is the wire that is cold and only has 12v when the brake pedal is pressed. It should be a white/brown wire on a 2011 Wrangler.
Is it working as intended now that you turned the braking up? If so, I suppose there is no harm in the way you have it hooked up. I agree with your diagnosis that the pump is starting gently so perhaps the light does not get enough voltage right away. If problems persist we do recommend finding the cold side of the brake switch for the Notification light.
