I am happy to suggest a flat tow setup for your 2012 Ford F-150 Platinum EcoBoost 4x4 super crew. Since your truck is 4wd you are good to tow with all 4 wheels on the ground. You will need to place the transfer case in neutral and engage the four wheel down towing feature. All of the steps be explained in your owners manual and we do suggest reading thru that thoroughly before towing. That said, I suggest the following parts:
Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524431-5
etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e84ZR
Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25
Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251
Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400
That will cover all of the main components. You have your Roadmaster base plate with removable arms. The tow bar is rated for 10,500 lbs, which will give you plenty of room to load your truck with gear and whatnot. The diode wiring kit comes with everything you need to wire the vehicle and connect it to your coach. The charge line kit is a requirement since the battery will drain slightly while you are towing.
I recommended the Demco braking system simply because it is our most reliable option. It will be permanently installed on the truck and it uses a plunger and cable assembly which attaches behind the brake pedal. So you will get good, smooth braking, and the system will be basically completely hidden. The Relay is required to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn.
You may end up needing a drop hitch to compensate for any height differences between the base plate arms and the receiver on your motorhome. The tow bar must be within 3" of level. If a drop hitch is needed, I recommend the Blue Ox Adjustable Drop Hitch # BLU28XR.
It is also recommended (not required) to get a locking hitch pin # e98882 and storage cover # DM9523042 to protect the tow bar.
I have linked a few of our install videos below. If you plan to do this yourself, you will probably find the videos quite useful. You will also find a link to our dealer locator, if you want to get linked up with a qualified installer in your area.
Feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions.
