Wiring Kits Needed To Flat Tow A 2017 Chevy Equinox
Question:
Hi Kevin, Thanks For all the information. Still trying to figure out what kits to use and how they are going to work. My latest problem/question. I was going to use the RM-152-98146-7 Roadmaster universal wiring kit for my tail lights. I have a combined to separate setup that the brake lights light when the vehicle is off (2017 Equinox). I was going to install the brake relay kit and 2 more diodes, buy my vehicle does not have a off/on brake light switch. It has a brake pedal position sensor that goes to a control module sending an analog signal. Any suggestions on what kits to use and wiring would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-152-98146-7 would be a great option to transfer your motorhome's traffic signals to the tail lights of the Equinox. You can install a converter # 118158 and two additional diodes # RM-790 will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals on the Equinox. This is only connecting to the tail lights and would not need to splice into the brake light switch.
You'd only need to tap into the brake light switch if the braking system you choose requires it. Portable systems like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR and Roadmaster Even Brake # RM-9400 that we talked about previously don't need to tap into the brake light switch. If you end up with a system that does you'll just need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751439 in order to get the signal.
As per GM Technical Service Bulletin 17-NA-348, GM has identified 4-cylinder models of this vehicle as having steering instability issues while towing. If you have a 4-cylinder model, you will need a # RM-76517 instead of a # RM76511, and will need to leave fuse DLIS 32 intact and pull the ABS module fuse located under the hood. Note: due to manufacturing variances, some 4-cylinder models may label the ABS module fuse as 15 or 16. You will also need to install a charge wire kit, part # RM-156-25.
