Troubleshooting No Running Light Signal With A Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness

Question:

2023 Toyota Venza. Attached Curt wiring harness according to directions in package and video nicely done. Connected cord to my trailer and all lights on the trailer work except my running lights. Using my voltmeter, I check each connection on the cord and have no voltage when running lights are on. I do have voltage for all other lights. I dont want to take apart the driver side molding unless I have to. Can you tell me what I should check first, second, ... Thanks,

Since the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C57ER is plugging into the tail lights and everything else is working it's not going to be a fuse issue and is more likely that either the connector isn't fully clicked in place, has a damaged pin, or that the converter box isn't functioning properly. Start by testing the running light pin on the 4-pole connector with a tester # PTW2993 to see if the issue is with wire harness or the wiring on the trailer.

If there's no signal then you'll unfortunately need to pull the interior trim again to get to the wire harness and you'll want to check your connections. Take them apart and inspect the pins for any dirt/debris that could potentially be blocking the connection.

If the connectors are fine and snug then you'll want to turn the running lights on and check the running light wire on the harness before the converter box to see if the tail lights are sending to signal through the connectors. If not then the connectors are bad. If the signal is coming through to the converter box but not out to the 4-pole connector then the converter box is bad. In either case the wire harness will need to be replaced.

If the signal is coming out from the 4-pole connector then the issue lies with the trailer wiring. You'll want to check your ground and then trace the running light wires from the trailer connector all the way back to the tail lights until you find the damage to the wire.
