Recommended Gooseneck and 5th Wheel Hitch Combo for a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 w/ a Short Bed
Question:
Hello etrailer, I am hoping that you can give me some guidance on a hitch system. I have a 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD, 6.0L gas engine, with a 6.5ft bed. I will be using it mainly to transport different RVs. I am looking for a hitch system that will allow me to tow both 5th Wheel and Gooseneck RVs. I will be towing 5th wheels most of the time, but will occasionally have to tow goosenecks. Can you lead me in the right direction as to what options you would recommend? Thank you!

I would be happy to help you! The best way to set up your 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 to pull a 5th wheel and a gooseneck trailer is to use the B&W Turnover Ball System item # BWGNRK1067 and the B&W Companion Sliding Hitch item # BWRVK3400-5W.
The B&W Turnover Ball System item # BWGNRK1067 is a gooseneck hitch that has a 30,000 lbs capacity and installs beneath your Silverado's truck bed. This underbed system allows you to store the 2-5/16" hitch ball upside down and inside your bed when you are not using it. This gives you full access to your bed when you're not towing. The locking handle is easily accessible inside your driver's side rear wheel well.
The B&W Companion Sliding Hitch item # BWRVK3400-5W installs directly to the square receiver provided by the Turnover Ball System item # BWGNRK1067. This sliding hitch has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will give you 12" of travel from front to back when making tight turns. B&W Companion hitches are the only ones compatible with the Turnover ball system.
I have linked a couple of installation videos below so you can see how to get these systems set up.
A couple of other optional parts are listed below that will make towing gooseneck and 5th wheel trailers easier:
To get some extra turning clearance when hauling a gooseneck trailer, I recommend using the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Gooseneck Trailer Hitches item # BWGNXA4085. This gooseneck ball mounts inside the Turnover Ball system and pushes the connection point back 4" towards your tailgate.
I recommend adding the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness item # C56070. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer's 7-way connector easier and more convenient.
