Why Would Brake Controller Only Work with Manual Override Lever
Question:
2006 Chevy Silverado 1500 When I press the brake pedal with the trailer plugged in, all the brake lights work, but the trailer brake doesnt. When I press the button on brake controller to manually operate the trailer brakes, all the brake lights light up on the truck and the trailer and the trailer brakes engage properly. When pulling a trailer, I can only operate the trailer brakes with the manual switch on the controller. My third light works on the truck. Im lost to what is wrong.

Check the connection of the red wire of your brake controller to your vehicle wiring. Most likely there's an issue here that prevents the brake controller from knowing when you are pressing the brakes to start activating.
