Troubleshooting Brake Issues On Brinkley RV After Technical Service Bulletin 2023040017 Performed
Question:
Any insight to the Lippert brake issue on Brinkley RV? A family member purchased a Brinkley the same time I did and is experiencing erratic brake issues after Lippert did their update which was also done to mine recently. I’m concerned I’ll have the same issue when I pull next week. He pulled all the way from Arkansas to Indiana with his GMC with no trailer brakes after he did the burnishing process. They just simply quit operating! Today he was able to get a friend with a Ford truck to connect to his trailer and it also showed a connection issue on the truck’s information display as his GMC did. The higher he turned up the gain the quicker the message would appear. I have measured my trailer’s DC resistance of the brake line to ground at 1.5 Ohms. His also measures the same. Does this sound correct? Seems a bit low to me! Started out at 2 Ohms but settled to 1.5 Ohms. Any knowledge is helpful…

I was able to find the Lippert Technical Service Bulletin 2023040017 which covers the issues on the axles installed for Brinkley RV's. The issue was the some of the hubs and brake assemblies were damaged and require full replacement. By searching for the bulletin above you will be able to see more information regarding the details and VIN's affected.
It does sound like there is an issue with your trailer brake magnets as a single Magnet # AKBRKR-M12 should have 3.0-3.8 ohms of resistance when tested on a Multimeter # PT89ZR. You will need to contact a local RV dealer to have the brakes re-inspected to determine if something wasn't completed correctly or if the brakes installed were defective.
